– Where is the town? –

When you enter the sim, you are in the OOC vendor camp area. The town on the ground is Deadwood. Use the stagecoach to head towards Deadwood. Some notable buildings: Gem Saloon, Grand Central Hotel, Bella Union saloon, schoolhouse, theatre, bank. livery, stores. Both towns are roleplay areas.

– What roles are available? –

The Gold Rush town of Deadwood brought people from all walks of life. You could be a prospector/miner, merchant, gambler, saloon owner, saloon girl, gunman/woman, actor/actress, bounty hunter, pioneer, banker, rich Victorian tourist — lots of possibilities! This is just a general idea of some roles you can develop for your character. There is a notecard with a more detailed list in the welcome area.

– What about a Native American Role? –

The Black Hills region of the Dakotas were home to Sioux, until the Gold Rush of 1876, then the Army started to chase them out in violation of the treaty of 1868. By 1877 the US confiscated the land. Most natives will be considered hostile here and shot on sight. If you wish or desire to play a native Sioux, only “civilized Sioux” (integrated into the white men community in dress and lifestyle) are allowed in town.

– What is proper attire? –

The setting is 1870′s Old West. Period dress is required. To maintain the integrity of the roleplay and ensure an immersive RP experience for all, we ask that you comply with the theme in your dress and actions. We have some excellent talented clothes makers set up in town and in the tent area. Come see them to complete your character’s look.

– Where can I live? –

There are many housing opportunities in Deadwood. You can rent a house, shop or hotel room. There are notecards with more information on rentals in the welcome area.

– What about weapons and meters? –

Deadwood will be using a meter system to enrich roleplay. It is custom to this sim. Weaponry will be limited to those that are scripted to work with the final meter. If you have a gun that comes with a loader script, bullets are available for purchase in shops in the towns. There are weapon makers in the towns if you wish to purchase a new weapon.

– This is Western roleplay, right? –

To be precise, this is *historical* roleplay. We wish to uphold the quality of roleplay in Deadwood to make it fun for all. If you’re not sure how to act, there are many experienced players you can observe and from whom you can learn RP skills.

– Okay, I want to roleplay here! What do I do? –

Join the group “The road to Deadwood” to roleplay in the sim. Don’t forget to pick up your meter at the welcome area.
